On January 20, 2026, the General Law of Circular Economy (LGEC) came into force, together with reforms to the General Law of Ecological Balance and Environmental Protection (LGEEPA) and the General Law for the Prevention and Integral Management of Waste (LGPGIR), which restructure waste management under circular economy principles. This new regulatory framework imposes immediate obligations on producers, importers and generators of waste in Mexico.
