Today, December 4, 2024, the National Minimum Wage Commission (CONASAMI) announced the increase in general and professional minimum wages, which will take effect on January 1, 2025. This adjustment contemplates both an Independent Recovery Amount (MIR) and a percentage increase that companies should carefully consider.
Key points of the increase:
General Minimum Wage:
– Zona Libre de la Frontera Norte (ZLFN): $419.88 per day.
– Rest of the country: $278.80 per day.
Minimum Professional Wages:
– The 61 trades, professions and special jobs included in the table of minimum professional salaries will also receive a 12% increase.
– See the complete table of general and professional minimum wages for 2025 here: Minimum Wage Table 2025.
3. Structure of the increment:
– The increase includes an Independent Recovery Amount (IRM) of $19.36 for the ZLFN and $12.85 for the rest of the country.
– In addition, a percentage increase of 6.5% is applied to the minimum wages in effect in 2024.
Importance for companies:
It is essential that employers verify whether any of the positions in their organization fall within the professional minimum wages. Applying only the general minimum wage to positions that correspond to the professional minimums can result in legal non-compliance and penalties.
In addition, the MIR is a specific tool for the recovery of the purchasing power of minimum wages and should not be used as a reference for setting contractual, federal, state or municipal wages.
Recommendation:
– Immediate payroll review: Identify whether the positions in your company comply with the applicable provisions.
– Contractual update: Make sure to reflect salary adjustments in individual and collective bargaining agreements.
– Internal communication: Keep your employees informed about salary changes to promote transparency and trust.
At Vega, Guerrero & Asociados, we are ready to support you in the implementation of these changes and in the revision of your salary structures.
