Labor Law reform initiative: benefits for working mothers

benefits for working mothers

An initiative to add section III to article 170 of the Federal Labor Law was presented in the Chamber of Deputies.

The proposal, introduced on February 13 by Deputy Cecilia Anunciación Patrón Laviada, seeks to provide greater work flexibility to single mothers, allowing them to work from home in justified situations related to the care of their children, especially in cases of health or school commitments.

Additionally, the initiative establishes that employers must explicitly define the specific functions that single mothers can perform in the telecommuting mode, thus seeking to clarify expectations and responsibilities for both employers and employees.

According to the justification, the initiative arises from the pressing need to adapt labor legislation to contemporary social reality where rigid labor structures hinder women from effectively reconciling their family responsibilities with work demands, negatively impacting both their work performance and the quality of life of themselves and their families.

Therefore, the intention is to balance work and family loads, challenging and modifying entrenched stereotypes.

It is essential to be prepared because, if the reform is approved, it will be necessary to implement specific policies in companies to regulate this situation punctually.

Currently, the initiative has been referred to the Labor and Social Security Commission for analysis, voting, and the preparation of a report evaluating and recommending actions regarding the proposal in question. If approved, its discussion will take place in the Plenary of the Chamber.

At Vega, Guerrero & Associates, we recognize the importance of being aware of these legislative changes and understanding their impact on companies.
