As of June 17, 2025, the labor reform known as the “Chair Law” officially comes into effect in Mexico. This reform introduces new obligations for employers to safeguard workers’ health and ensure humane working conditions.
Starting today, companies must comply with three key requirements:
- Provide enough chairs with backrests for all workers in the commerce, service, and similar sectors.
- Avoid forcing workers to remain standing throughout their entire workday, or preventing them from sitting periodically.
- Begin the process of updating their Internal Work Regulations, which must be formally amended no later than December 14, 2025.
This reform is not merely a matter of workplace amenities — it introduces new compliance standards that labor inspectors may verify in any workplace, regardless of the industry.
