Every year, the National Minimum Wage Commission carried out the process through which proposals for the percentage increase in the national minimum wage are presented, discussed, and determined. It is worth noting that this body is composed of representatives from both the government and the business sector, as well as union representatives from the most significant national Confederations.
In line with the increases decreed in this federal administration, it was determined that as of January 1, 2024, the increase in the minimum wage will be 20%. Therefore, the general minimum wage in the free zone of the northern border of the country will be set at $374.89 Mexican pesos per day, while in the rest of the country, it will be $248.93 pesos.
It is important to note that this is the last minimum wage increase that will be decreed within the current federal administration. As previously mentioned, it will come into effect on January 1 of the next year. Although the publication of this decree in the Official Gazette of the Federation is still pending, we urge all our clients and employers nationwide to make the necessary provisions and considerations to implement this adjustment internally and comply with this new provision starting next year.
